It was a sunny day. A normal day. A monday.
Sally comes home from school and goes into the bathroom to have a
pee. She sits down at the toilet seat and thinks about life.
She was 13. A crazy teenager girl with a faible for cats, the moon
and the paranormal side of life. Yes, Sally was a witch. A teen
witch, okay. But a witch. She believes in The Great Goddess and does a
lot of spells for harmony, luck and health. Her mother was her idol
and best friend. They live together since her father died in an
accident when Sally was 8. And –what should I say- her mother was a
witch as well.
Sally ends her pee. She tries to stand up, then her view falls down
to the "thing" inside the toilet. There was blood. Her blood. "My
dear." Her first period.
Sallys face becomes red. "Mommy!", she screams nicely. "I think I
got it."
Patricia, Sallys Mother, moves from the kitchen to the closed
bathroom door. A wooden spoon in her right hand. "What's the matter,
darling?", she asks. "Something wrong?"
"Not… really.", Sally says behind the door. "Can you please come in?"
Patricia enters the bathroom and beginns to laugh as she sees her
daughter crouching over the toilet with a grimace. "What are you
doing here, Sally? I thought you know how to pee…"
Sally growls. "Haha. Very funny, Mom. NO. I got my first period. You
see." She points to the blood under her. "I think I need a tampon or
a panty liner."
"Sure. Here you are." Patricia gives her a tampon from the cupboard
behind. Her eyes beginns to shine. Her daughter… her little beloved
daughter becomes a woman! This was a miracle. She thanks the Great
Goddes for initiating Sally.
"Do you need any help, Darling?"
"No, I am old enough to know how to use such a thing." Sally smiles.
"Okay. I'm waiting in the living room." Patricia blinks and leaves
the room. Sally stays alone. On her own. More mature then before
five minutes. She really wonders how fundamental a first period
could be for a girl. But… one moment. Does she really was a girl
anymore? Her body changes. But what about her mind? Does she become
a woman only if her body becomes to? Questions over questions.
Sally was confused.
From where does she learn what comes next?
Sally ended her "thing with the tampon" and leaves the bathroom as
well.
Her mother stands in front of her. Proud.
She hugs her daughter and says: "Welcome in the world of women,
Sally. I love you.". She draws a pentagramm into the air between
them and smiles. "Let's go celebrating. I know a nice little Chinese
restaurant next to the shopping mall." Sally smiles too. She was
happy.
Lots of her friends says that the first period is a strange and
terrible thing. Nobody helps you. And you feel dirty. But… it
was'nt. It was just a process of growing up. Yes. If the "red moon
is rising" everything changes. Sally now knows, that this was the
circle of life.
